The Carrabassett river starts near Sugarloaf Mountain which is the second largest ski resort east of the Mississippi in terms of skiable area with 1,360 acres, and is about 50 mins from Anson.
The river runs for 33.8 miles, flowing southeast past the town of Kingfield where there is a seven-mile stretch of the river that is a great option for intermediate river rafters. It then joins the Kennebec River at the Gorge in Anson.
